Djimon Hounsou is in all the things you love

Do you know Djimon Gaston Hounsou? I don’t mean personally. Do you recognize him from anything? Of course, you do. Mr. Hounsou has appeared in a number of your favorite films. His IMDB is chocked full of nerdy delights. From Constantine to Gladiator, Djimon has elevated a boatload of movies to epic status.

Djimon Hounsou as the Wizard SHAZAM?
Recognize the Wizard SHAZAM?

I recounting my time watching Shazam and my surprise seeing Djimon play the wizard who grants Billy Batson his powers. Then it hit me. Djimon is in both Captain Marvel and Shazam. Take that in for a moment. A property with ties to both DC and Marvel simply HAD to have Mr. Hounsou in their respective films.

In case you aren’t aware, Shazam used to be named Captain Marvel, before DC “relinquished” the name to Marvel Comics. The name Captain Marvel has a long and storied history. Check out the SyFy Wire video recapping [hyperbole] the most coveted title in history [/hyperbole]

Hey Korath, run into Captain Marvel recently?
Hey Korath, run into Captain Marvel recently?

I had an epiphany standing there holding a wet flower print dish. I rushed over to check his IMDB, and sure enough, Djimon is in all the things you and I think are fantastic. Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Aquaman, Constantine, Gladiator; the list goes on and on. He’s out there making the good, spectacular. I will also mention Never Back Down as I saw that movie at a time where I was very into MMA.

A Black Panther Rises

Did you know Djimon was the voice of Black Panther? I didn’t. Check out the Marvel Knights: Black Panther animated series. Just check out the trailer above listen to that powerful voice. He even does T’Challa right.

The hero we deserve
